The daily food allowance for players during training camps organised before national and higher-level sports competitions has been increased from Rs 250 to Rs 400 in the State. Additionally, players in sports hostels and sports colleges will also receive their food allowance as per the increased rate. Sports minister Rekha Arya issued necessary instructions to officials regarding this at a review meeting here on Monday.

Arya stated that the previous daily food allowance of Rs 250 was insufficient for the players, making it necessary to adjust it to match the allowances currently provided by organisations like Sports Authority of India (SAI).This proposal has received the approval of the State’s governor and is effective immediately.

Under the new guidelines, players in all sports hostels and sports colleges across the state will now receive a daily food allowance of Rs 400 instead of Rs 250. Further, during training camps for national and higher-level competitions, players, coaches and other support staff will also benefit from the increased food allowance, she said.

The minister emphasised that this increase in the food allowance will enable players to access more nutritious meals, which is expected to lead to a significant improvement in their performance. She added that the State government is dedicated to supporting athletes and enhancing their performance and this step is an important part of that commitment.
