Focus on ensuring fair & peaceful polls, directs DGP

The State’s director general of police, Ashok Kumar has directed all police officers and personnel to ensure impartial and peaceful conduct of the Assembly elections as per the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The DGP said this while chairing a video conference regarding the assembly polls with the in-charges of all zones and districts on Tuesday.

The DGP directed the department officers to ensure strict implementation of the directions of the ECI and the model code of conduct. Action should be taken against mischievous elements under sections 107/116 and 151 of CrPC, and under the Gangster Act on goondas and mafia elements. Adequate residential, communication and transport facilities should be made for CAPF/Homeguard/PAC personnel coming from outside on election duty.Persons who spread communal tension and disinformation should be identified and strictly monitored. Activities of such persons should also be monitored on social media, he said.

Coordination should be established with neighbouring states, border meetings should be held at the police station level to exchange information about criminal elements and other important information. Further, the guidelines issued by the ECI and government for preventing the spread of Covid-19 should also be enforced strictly. All the district in-charges were also directed to ensure that all police personnel are administered precautionary/booster dose of the Covid vaccine within three days. ADG (Crime, Law and Order) V Murugeshan, ADG (Intelligence and Security) Sanjay Gunjyal and other officers were present at the PHQ during the meeting.
