Five more dengue cases reported in Dehradun

Five new cases of dengue were reported in the Dehradun district on Friday. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dehradun, Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma informed that these five individuals tested positive for dengue. Among the patients, two have been admitted to Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, one to Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital, one to Max Hospital and one to Graphic Era Hospital. This raises the cumulative number of confirmed dengue cases in the district to 99, which includes 57 cases from Dehradun and 42 from other districts or states.

Dr Sharma further said that there are currently 14 active dengue patients of whom 10 are being treated at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, one at Himalayan Hospital, one at Max Hospital, one at Graphic Era Hospital and one at GDMC hospital. On Friday alone, 110 dengue samples were collected, bringing the cumulative total to 6,722 samples assessed thus far, he said. Importantly, till now, no deaths have been reported.

Further, on Friday, Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) and Health department volunteers conducted 14794 house surveys to check for mosquito larvae. Among these surveys, 56 houses tested positive for larvae. To date, the health department has completed a total of 7,02,035 house surveys, with 2,255 showing positive results. Similarly, on Friday, ASHA workers and volunteers inspected 1,01,242 containers, of which 70 were found to contain larvae. Overall, they have surveyed 44,71,458 containers, resulting in 2,781 testing positive.

It will be recalled that earlier, additional CMO Dr CS Rawat had urged the public to take precautions, especially during the monsoon season, to prevent dengue. He advised individuals to wear full-sleeved clothing, avoid stagnant water in their surroundings and follow other preventive measures.
