Five men arrested after viral video of violent clash near Kedarnath

Five men were arrested after a video showing a violent clash at the Sitapur parking area near Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand went viral on social media on Thursday.
The video showed a group of men attacking each other with sticks. Following the circulation of the clip, Rudraprayag police took cognisance and launched an inquiry, the Rudraprayag superintendent of police Akshay Konde said. He told The Pioneer that the police teams from Sonprayag police station reached the Sitapur parking area on Thursday and found that the incident had occurred around 11 AM.
The clash reportedly broke out between some pilgrims and employees working at the parking site. The situation escalated into a physical fight involving sticks. The SP said that after identifying those involved through the video and on-ground investigation, police took five individuals into custody and then arrested after interrogation.
A case has been registered at Sonprayag police station under sections 190 and 191(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. All arrested accused are locals and have been identified as Deepak Chandra (23), Laxman Singh (32), Rajendra Kohli (33), Sudarshan Chandra (28) and Durgesh (21).
Konde said that the police have also filed an FIR against the contractor of parking space as he failed to maintain control over his staff. “The investigation is ongoing and further action will be taken accordingly,” he said.
