PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Rudrapur

Five out of 16 e-check gates proposed in Udham Singh Nagar district have started operating. On the directions of the State government, these gates have been developed to put a check on illegal transport of minerals, overloading and transportation without proper permit. The command centre for these gates has been established in the district headquarters at Rudrapur.

This arrangement will enable strict action against illegal transportation while enabling an increase in revenue but facilitating systematic flow of legal transportation. The revenue from mining in the district so far this year has crossed Rs 127 crore.

Providing this information, the district mining officer Manish Parihar said that the e-check gates in five locations with automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras, high resolution CCTV cameras will make real time data logging and digital verification of e-permit/e-challan very convenient. This system will enable immediate identification of fake permits, vehicles transporting without payment of royalty and overloaded vehicles.

He further informed that instead of the mining documents issued by the government as part of the old system, mining documents with safety features have been provided. Implementation of the paperless system vehicles following the regulations will be able to pass without stopping while immediate action will be possible against vehicles violating the rules, Parihar said.

These developments will encourage legal commercial activities while putting a check on the revenue loss caused by illegal activities, he added. Along with increase in revenue, these measures will also boost road safety and encourage legal transport of mined materials.
