The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that the party has requested the Congress leadership to send former president of Congress Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and KC Venugopal to campaign in the Champawat by-election. He said that the Congress candidate Nirmala Gehtodi would file her nomination papers on May 11. Mahara said that Leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Yashpal Arya, in charge of Uttarakhand Congress Devendra Yadav, former chief minister Harish Rawat, former CLP Pritam Singh would remain present during the nomination of Gehtodi. Mahara said that Gehtodi is a strong candidate and added that she has always remained a strong contender for the party ticket and this time she has got the ticket with support of former MLA Hemesh Kharkwal.
