Dehradun police, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), handed over five Bangladeshi nationals to Bangladeshi authorities at the international border on June 10. The group included four women and one man who had been residing illegally in Dehradun for a long time.

The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that five individuals were detained during a joint verification drive conducted by the police and the Uttarakhand Special Task Force in the Patel Nagar area on May 20 and 21. During questioning, authorities confirmed that all five were citizens of Bangladesh and were living in Dehradun for a long time without valid documents. Upon being questioned, none of the Bangladeshis could furnish valid travel documents such as passports or visas.

The police recovered two Bangladeshi national identity cards from and two fake Indian Aadhaar cards from their possession, as per Singh. He said that following directives from the central government, police initiated the deportation process and a special team was formed to ensure compliance with the official instructions. He said that in continued coordination with BSF officials, police completed all required procedures and the five individuals were deported and officially handed over to the Bangladeshi agency at the international border.

The security agencies had intensified verification drives, routine checks and surveillance across Uttarakhand in May in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir and Operation Sindoor to prevent illegal infiltration and ensure the safety of residents and pilgrims alike. The SSP said that they are still carrying out verification drives to identify such people living illegally in the district.
