Five Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended in a joint operation conducted by the Dehradun Police and the Special Task Force (STF) on Wednesday. The suspects, including four women and one man, were detained from the Patelnagar police station area during a coordinated raid based on intelligence inputs, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He said that following intensive questioning, the authorities found sufficient evidence confirming the Bangladeshi origin of all five individuals. In line with directives issued by the central government, the Dehradun Police have initiated legal procedures to deport the foreign nationals from the country, he said. Singh stated that the police officials are thoroughly investigating the network and local contacts of the detained individuals to identify any broader linkages or illegal immigration routes. The police had also arrested five Bangladeshi nationals and one Indian woman for illegally residing in the Clement Town area of the city last week. The SSP said that the police are thoroughly investigating how these individuals reached here and managed to reside illegally in the area and who may have assisted or sheltered them. Such cases have raised concerns about potential cross-border infiltration and the presence of undocumented foreign nationals in Dehradun.
