Taking cognisance of complaints being received from the public about the problems being caused by odd timings of traffic lights in Dehradun, the traffic directorate informed that it has installed five Adaptive Traffic Control System (ATCS) in Dehradun city to monitor the traffic with the sensors to detect traffic volume. This system will run on Vehicle Actuated mode that will control the traffic signals by detecting the volume of traffic through sensors to optimise the flow of traffic at junctions.

This system adjusts the timing of traffic lights on real-time traffic conditions which will prevent odd timings of traffic lights in the city. In the first phase, the directorate in association with Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL) has installed these ATCS at five junctions in the city which are Dilaram Chowk, Darshanlal Chowk, Kishan Nagar Chowk, Fountain Chowk and Sahastradhara Chowk.

The Uttarakhand traffic director Mukhtar Mohsin informed that the directorate has also prepared a plan to change the timers of the traffic signals at 49 junctions in the city.  He said that after completing physical inspections of locations and receiving adequate Artificial Intelligence (AI) based data, the traffic signals would be controlled in automatic mode for the optimal flow of traffic in the city.
