Firecrackers to be on sale from November 1

Tuesday, 26 October 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

The Dehradun district administration has allowed the sale of firecrackers from November 1 to 5 for Deepawali after starting the process of issuing temporary licenses to vendors from Monday. The local businessmen will also have to pay the charge for selling crackers in the area allotted to them as per the license.

In order to avoid any mishap during the sale of crackers across the district, the Dehradun district magistrate R Rajesh Kumar held a meeting with the police and representatives of business associations to discuss the safety measures. He said that it will be mandatory to secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire department to get a valid temporary license to sell firecrackers. He also ordered sub divisional magistrates (SDMs) to issue licenses only for such areas where fire fighting vehicles can enter easily in case of any fire emergencies. “The shops selling firecrackers must not be located in between electricity poles or wires. No other products must be sold in such shops. Proper arrangements must be made to tackle any fire issues in or nearby the shops,” stated the DM.

As in the last year, no license will be issued for the shops located in the stretches of Paltan Bazaar to Kotwali to Clock Tower, Dhamawala market to Kotwali to Adhat Bazaar Chowk, Paltan Bazaar to Old Sabzi Mandi, Hanuman Chowk to Jhanda Mohalla, Survey Chowk to DAV PG College Road and Karnpur market apart from all such narrow areas where fire fighting vehicles cannot reach with water tankers,” stated Kumar. He added that stringent actions will be taken against those who would fail to comply with these rules in the district. He also informed that the administration has initiated the application process to issue temporary license for the sale of firecrackers from Monday to Thursday which will start from November 1 to 5. He further stated that shops like jewellery shops and furniture shops will be allowed to operate till 12 AM on Dhanteras.  Those businessmen who need to take their money to a safe place during the night can inform police to provide them security, added Kumar.
