PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The administration of Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital conducted a fire safety mock drill on Thursday. Principal medical superintendent of the hospital Dr Manu Jain said that the administration is committed to improving services for patients. As part of this effort, the hospital’s administration team, including service engineers, carried out the mock drill focused on fire safety. During the exercise, a thorough inspection and evaluation of the fire safety equipment was performed, revealing some deficiencies. Jain said that since 2017, the fire safety equipment has not been actively utilised, leading to its current state of disuse.

In addition to this, it was reported that the smoke detection panel was found to be damaged during the mock drill. Jain said that it has also been observed that several components of the fire equipment have been stolen from the hospital, which raises significant concerns.

“Identifying these shortcomings during the mock drill is indeed worrisome,” said Jain.  He said that, however, without delay, they have personally taken steps to address all the deficiencies at the hospital to ensure the safety of the patients.

He informed that instructions for repairing the fire equipment have been issued. It is expected that on Monday, a service engineer will visit the hospital premises to carry out repairs on the fire equipment, as well as address other issues such as leaks and other related concerns to this matter.

He also said that the administration has taken steps regarding the stolen fire equipment. An FIR has been registered and to prevent further incidents at the hospital, they will ensure to secure the fire equipment by locking and chaining it. In addition, security personnel are already present on the hospital premises. Further, they plan to install eight additional CCTV cameras in areas of the hospital that are not currently covered by existing cameras to help address theft cases on the premises, he stated.
