The Finance department issued the government order (GO) for the amendment in the Uttarakhand Procurement Policy -2017 on Friday after which contracts up to Rs 10 crore will be given only to local contractors in the State. A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the State cabinet held at the secretariat recently.
Following the cabinet decision, the Finance secretary Dilip Jawalkar issued the GO on Friday. In the order, the finance secretary said that works upto Rs 10 crore under the State sector will only be given to local people and locally registered firms (in which the share of local person or persons is more than 51 per cent). These contracts will be subjected to completion of necessary eligibility conditions.
It is pertinent to mention that till now works up to Rs five crore were being given to local contractors. The objective of the move is to increase employment opportunities for local people and their empowerment.
