A father and son riding on a motorcycle fell into a deep gorge near Kolhukhet on Mussoorie Road early on Thursday. The father died while the teenage son sustained serious injuries. The incident took place about one kilometre ahead of the Nagar Palika toll point. The two were travelling on a motorcycle bearing registration number UK 07 AB 7926 when they lost balance and plunged into the gorge, as per the officials. They informed that the deceased has been identified as Asvaq Ahmed (40), a resident of Raipur Adhoiwala. His 14-year-old son, Faizan Ahmed, suffered injuries. The officials informed that the local police had shifted the injured boy to a hospital before search teams arrived.
After the control room in Dehradun received information about the incident, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was deployed for assistance. A team led by sub-inspector Surendra Singh from the SDRF Sahastradhara post left for the site with rescue equipment. The SDRF personnel, along with the police, began rescue efforts upon reaching the location. The terrain around the site made the operation challenging but the responders reached the victims. While the injured boy was already sent to a hospital, the father was found dead at the spot. The SDRF team retrieved his body from the gorge and brought it up to the main road. The body was later handed over to district police for further procedures. The officials informed that the police are looking into the circumstances that led to the fall. The police are yet to ascertain what caused the bike to slip. Further action is underway, they added.
