Farmers to benefit from early winter snowfall

The first proper snowfall of this winter season arrived early this year in the higher altitudes of Uttarakhand that generally occurs at the end of December or at the beginning of the month of January.

However, this early snowfall would be quite beneficial for the people of the State in multiple ways. This was informed by the director of State meteorological centre, Bikram Singh adding that it is also advantageous in terms of health and for the farmers too. According to him, the snowfall in the mountainous regions has certainly intensified the cold in the State but it will also boost the growth of crops like wheat which are planted by farmers during the winter season.

Moreover, he also said that the snowfall in the mid of November also minimised the possibility of certain ailments as the dry winter which was prevailing in most of the regions of the State before the snowfall might make one vulnerable to certain ailments. He also informed that in all Char Dham locations including Kedarnath and Badrinath, most of the high mountainous regions in the State and the nearby area of Chakrata experienced the recent snowfall too.
