Sugarcane crushing season formally inaugurated

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that the pending payments of sugarcane farmers will be made soon. He further said that according to priority to the interests of farmers, the State Government will work to give sugar mills on PPP mode for better management and also to fully safeguard the interest of the employees. The process to install ethanol plants in Kichha, Doiwala, Bazpur, and Nadehi sugar mills is underway. Rawat said this while formally inaugurating the sugarcane crushing season at Doiwala sugar mill on Thursday. According to officials, several programmes are being undertaken under the sugarcane development project to increase the sugarcane farming areas under Doiwala sugar mill. In the secured sugarcane area of the mill in the past three to four years, better quality of sugarcane with higher sugar content is being sown. As a result, there has been an increase of 57 percent in the sowing of high yielding varieties of sugarcane in the area. There is a target to increase the sugarcane area of early varieties by 70 percent. In the past crushing season, from the secured area of Doiwala sugar mill of Doiwala, Dehradun, Haridwar, Roorkee, and Paonta Sahib, a total of 29.56 lakh quintals of sugarcane was procured. In the past crushing season, the farmers were to be paid a total of Rs 92.92 crore for their sugarcane, out of which, the mill out of its own sources had paid Rs 46.86 crore while a sum of Rs 27.28 crore received from State Government as financial help was also paid to the farmers.
