Fake medicines racket: Police arrests another accused

Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) has arrested one more person in a case related to fake medicines on Wednesday. The arrested accused is allegedly involved in producing and selling counterfeit medicines of branded pharmaceutical companies. Earlier, another accused, Santosh Kumar had been arrested with a large quantity of fake wrappers, boxes, labels and QR codes of reputed medicine companies. So far, 13 people have been arrested by the STF in this case. 

The senior superintendent of police (SSP) STF, Navneet Singh Bhullar said that he had directed his teams to identify people involved in manufacturing and selling fake medicines in the markets and to take strict action against them. “The accused used fake labels and packing materials to sell counterfeit life-saving medicines as original products. These fake medicines were sold in the markets, posing a serious risk to public health. None of those involved will be spared,” he added. 

The arrested accused has been identified as Mohan Vaidh alias Monty, a resident of Zirakpur in Mohali, Punjab.

Notably, the case had been first registered at Selaqui police station and later transferred to the STF considering the seriousness of the case.
