Factionalism mars Godiyal’s ceremony

The fissure lines in the Uttarakhand Congress were clearly exposed in the ceremony organised to welcome the new Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal.

While the whole programme was dominated by the leaders owing allegiance to the former chief minister Harish Rawat, those belonging to the faction led by the outgoing PCC president Pritam Singh did their best to project their leader.

In fact Pritam Singh and his supporters which included working president Ranjit Rawat and Bhuwan Kapdi, treasurer Aryendra Sharma and others arrived in a group on the shoulders of their supporters amid shouting of slogans. The enthusiastic supporters of the both camps raised slogans in support of their leaders during the speeches of the leaders. Some leaders were seen pushing for a space in the podium and were heard blaming rival camps for capturing the stage.

The whole programme was marred by gross mismanagement and the senior leaders had to intervene to ensure order during the event. The protocols of the Covid-19 were thrown into air during the whole programme with people jostling with one another.
