Extremely heavy rain warning for 5 districts, wet spell till July 30

The State meteorological centre has forecast a wet spell in the state till July 30. During this five-day period, some parts of the state are expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall.

On Sunday the meteorological centre issued a warning regarding the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Nainital, Pauri and Dehradun districts on Monday.  The warning is in addition to the alert issued regarding the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall with intense spells at isolated places in the state on Monday. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in the state. For the provisional state capital Dehradun, the state meteorological centre has forecast few spells of rain/thundershowers, one or two of which may be heavy in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 27 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today. Further, according to officials, the current meteorological analysis and numerical weather prediction models indicate that the western end of the monsoon trough is likely to shift north of its normal position from July 25 and remain close to the foothills of the western Himalaya till July 30. With the monsoon trough likely to remain active during this period, widespread rainfall activities are likely under its influence over Uttarakhand till July 30.

Apart from the weather warning issued for today, the meteorological centre has also warned of the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Nainital and Pauri districts on Tuesday. Further, heavy to very heavy rainfall with intense spells is likely to occur at isolated places especially in Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital and Pithoragarh districts on July 28, 29 and 30.
