Ex-Gujarat CM among passengers on flight that crashed in Ahmedabad

Former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani is believed to be on the Air India flight bound for Gatwick Airport, London that crashed shortly after takeover near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon.
“Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025. At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest on http://airindia.Com and on our X handle,” Air India posted on X.
Several of the injured were taken to the city civil hospital.
According to sources, the flight was carrying 242 people- 230 passengers and 12 crew members.
Rupani was the CM from August 2016 to September 2021 before he quit ahead of the 2022 State Assembly elections. Thick black smoke was found in the air of the adjoining areas of the airport.
