Army, NCC team successfully scales Mt Thelu

A mountaineering expedition to Mount Thelu in Uttarkashi district was successfully accomplished by a team of mountaineers of the armed forces and National Cadet Corps (NCC). The team created a record by climbing to the summit of Mount Thelu (6,002 metres) in 48 hours on September 16 and 17 despite facing difficult terrain and challenging weather conditions.

The expedition was conducted under the aegis of Directorate General, NCC  Delhi.   The team comprised the army officers, junior commissioned officers, non-commissioned officers, NCC girl trainees and NCC boys and girls cadets.

The team was led by colonel Amit Bisht who himself is a keen mountaineer and included cadets Rahul Negi, Mayank Kala, Amit Kumar, Khushi Devi and Kanchan.

A communiqué from the army said, “The objective of this expedition was to awaken the spirit of adventure among the NCC cadets and the youth. The team had worked hard during the mountaineering course at Nehru Mountaineering Institute, Uttarkashi to make this expedition a success. The additional director general, NCC directorate Uttarakhand, major general PS Dahiya has congratulated all the cadets and the team for the successful climb.’’
