Ensure water connections in all schools & Anganwadi centres by December end: CM

The target of providing drinking water connections in all schools and Anganwadi centres in the state should be met by the end of this December. Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said this while addressing officials in a meeting held to review the Jal Jeevan mission on Thursday. The set standards should be fully met in the connections being provided in the rural area under the mission, he stressed, adding that the district magistrates should regularly monitor this.

Chairing the meeting, the CM said that targets must be achieved within the fixed time period under the Jal Jeevan mission. The Jal Sansthan and Peyjal Nigam should fix a daily target for this purpose. The district magistrates should also hold meetings from time to time to review the progress. Rawat further stressed on the need for the departments concerned to work in coordination in order to achieve the target of providing a tap and clean water in each home soon. More focus needs to be laid for this purpose in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts, added the CM.

Chief secretary Om Prakash said that the distribution network will increase with the new connections being provided. Special efforts should be made towards revival and protection of water sources so that there is no dearth in the per capita availability of water. He further said that the number of contractors should be increased to speed up work under the Jal Jeevan mission. Registration camps should also be held as per the requirement. Pointing at the challenge under the mission in Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts, he said that additional staff should also be facilitated so that the target is achieved on time.

Secretary Nitesh Jha informed that 14.26 lakh connections are to be provided in the rural area under this mission. A total of 3.53 lakh connections have been provided out of which, 1.36 lakh connections have been provided in the past six months. The authorities have set a target of ensuring water connection in every home this year in Chamoli, Dehradun and Bageshwar districts, he said.

Cabinet minister Arvind Pandey, additional secretary Ashish Joshi, departmental officials and all district magistrates through video conferencing were also present in the meeting.
