PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Home secretary Shailesh Bagauli has directed officials to ensure that routes for ambulances, fire tenders and other essential services remain clear and unobstructed at all times during the upcoming festivities. He issued this instruction while chairing a meeting held on Friday with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Dehradun, Ajai Singh and officials concerned to discuss measures for maintaining smooth traffic flow during these events.

Bagauli emphasised the need for special arrangements to ensure effective traffic management in markets, religious sites and crowded areas throughout the festive period. He urged officers to personally monitor the situation and take necessary actions to maintain public safety. A company from the IRB or PAC will be deployed for traffic control in Dehradun. Additionally, home guard and public transport (PRD) personnel will assist with traffic management.

Key intersections and busy locations in the city will be identified and sufficient traffic personnel will be assigned to those areas, as directed by Bagauli. He also instructed that all traffic signals and CCTV cameras be under the control of the Police department to allow for prompt monitoring and intervention.

The Traffic directorate was tasked with devising effective traffic plans by consulting experts and establishing better coordination with other departments, including the municipal corporation, Public Works department, Smart City initiative and Transport. Bagauli further urged the directorate to enhance its human resources, technical capabilities and infrastructure to effectively plan and implement long-term solutions.

The meeting highlighted the importance of prioritising public convenience, safety and smooth traffic management in light of the upcoming festivals.
