Ensure clean, affordable & reliable energy to people: CS to power corporations

 Chief secretary Anand Bardhan has directed the department of Power to ensure that the people have access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy. He took a review meeting of the department at the auditorium of UJVN Limited on Saturday. 

In the meeting the CS reviewed the works of all the three power corporations; the UJVNL, Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) and Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (PTCUL).

The CS directed the power corporations that while planning any project, all its technical, economic and commercial aspects should be kept in mind. He added that the tender process should start only after getting all the important administrative, environmental, financial and technical approvals.  He said that all the projects should be completed within the prescribed time frame. 

The CS  directed that all the three corporations should submit a detailed report of their respective projects regarding what was the initial cost of the project and how much did its final cost increase due to any kind of delay and what were the reasons behind it.

He suggested that the power corporations should present a detailed agenda for the next five, 10, 15, and 25-30 years in the next meeting while keeping in mind the future energy needs. 

The CS directed the UPCL to speed up the work of the smart meter project and complete it on time. He said that the project of laying of the underground lines should be regularly monitored.

Bardhan said that a detailed study of the transmission system of the State should be conducted by the Central Electricity Authority so that the transmission system can be improved.

He said that new technology should be adopted to prevent power losses and inspection of the high tension lines.

He directed the UJVNL to study the feasibility of setting up a nuclear power plant in the state. The CS directed the corporation to speed up the construction work of the Lakhwad multipurpose project. 

The CS said that the projects receiving special assistance grants from Asian Development Bank, the State and the projects related to the chief minister’s announcements should be regularly monitored. 

The MD UJVNL informed that at the time of formation of the State, the installed power capacity of the state was 1,101 MW which has currently increased to 4,264 MW.

Principal secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram, additional secretary Ranjana Rajguru, MD UJVNL Sandeep Singhal, MD UPCL Anil Kumar and MD PTCUL PC Dhyani and others attended the meeting.
