The additional chief electoral officer (ACEO) C Ravishankar has issued directions for making the Assembly election process accessible for the differently abled. He said that a targeted approach should be undertaken to motivate the differently abled persons to vote. Chairing a virtual meeting of the state level committee to make the election accessible for differently abled voters, he said that efforts to register such voters in the voters list should be expedited. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has made provision for postal ballots for differently abled voters as part of a fixed procedure. Such voters should be informed about the entire process through various media. They should also know that they can also vote at the polling centres if they wish. The ACEO said that all facilities provisioned for differently abled voters like ramps in every polling centre should be ensured in a time bound manner. Further, the app prepared for differently abled persons should also be widely publicised, he added.
