The Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) conducted a workshop for local drone pilots who will operate the machines during Char Dham Yatra in the state to collect a variety of data to be used by various departments. The workshop was dedicated to introduction to various types of drones, regulations of drone flying operation, introduction to the Geographic Information System (GIS), GIS Data and Google Earth, drone image processing and software and autonomous flying operation.

The ITDA is focusing on participation of drone pilots for upcoming wide-ranging applications of drones in Char-Dham Yatra and the data collected in the process will be used by various departments of the government to make Uttarakhand a geo-spatial enabled state. It would help in the enhancement of technical capability and provide solutions to technical challenges, as per the officials. According to them, drones with advanced technological functionality that includes accurate data collection from aerial views and increased durability when faced with harsh environmental conditions of the state, can allow local drone pilots to achieve the tasks that could not be done before. The officials said that ITDA will soon organise more advanced technical workshops to establish a world leading drone ecosystem in the state.
