Driver killed, cleaner injured after truck falls into 300 feet gorge

The driver of a truck died while the cleaner sustained serious injuries after the truck fell into a 300 feet deep gorge in Totaghati on the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway on Friday morning.  The truck was being driven from Rishikesh to Srinagar when the driver lost control of the vehicle in Totaghati area. While the cleaner Sunil Singh (27) fell out of the truck and onto the road, the driver Chandra Mohan (52) fell along with the truck in the deep gorge.  A team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) from Byasi reached the site to search for the driver. The injured cleaner was sent by ambulance to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rishikesh for treatment. The Devprayag police also reached the accident site where search for the driver began after the cleaner informed the personnel about him falling along with the truck. The personnel undertook an operation for about four hours before succeeding in retrieving the body of the driver Chandra Mohan.
