PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

With the residents of the city facing frequent temperature shifts and quirky weather, the doctors warn that cases of   skin allergies and dehydration may rise.  Notably, a few days ago, the Dehradun experienced pre- monsoon rains which brought down the temperature marginally, but the relief proved short-lived with weather changing again, pushing temperatures above 39 degrees Celsius. Given these fluctuations, doctors are advising people to take appropriate precautions to keep away from heat exhaustion, skin allergies and the like.

A physician at Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital, Dr Praveen Panwar said that there has been a notable rise in cases of loose motion in outpatient departments compared to previous days. “The rainy days immediately followed by days of sizzling heat may heighten the risk of skin allergies, dehydration and heat exhaustion among other issues. During this time, individuals may experience symptoms such as disrupted sleep, reduced appetite and common manifestations of skin allergies like redness and itching. Those with diabetes and the office goers should take essential precautions as they are at a higher risk. Among these precautions are the use of sunscreen when going outdoors, carrying an umbrella to shield against direct sunlight and staying well-hydrated,” he added.

Speaking on the drastic weather change impacting health, a dermatologist at the district hospital Dr Anil Arya said that cases of fungal infections are presently coming to his notice in increasing numbers.  “I fear, given my medical experiences, that cases of sunburns and sun allergies may also spike due to unpredictable temperature fluctuations. The symptoms of sunburns and sun allergies are   itching, skin darkening and irritation. To keep safe, the people should wear protective clothing, apply medicated sunscreen, stay hydrated and use an umbrella for sun protection,” he added.
