Doon tops Citizens’ Feedback in Swachh Survekshan 2021

With only one day left to register citizens’ feedback on the progress made by urban local bodies (ULBs) in achieving cleanliness in their respective cities and areas, Dehradun city is leading the category in Uttarakhand among 96 ULBs.  The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has garnered over four lakh feedbacks in the Citizens’ Feedback category of Swachh Survekshan 2021 in the last three months. About 10 days ago, this count was about 3.44 lakh which has increased to over 4.01 lakh as on Tuesday evening. The two municipal corporations that follow the MCD in this race as per the statistics provided by the officials are the Municipal Corporation of Roorkee (MCR) with about 1,36,796 citizens’ feedbacks and the Municipal Corporation of Haldwani (MCH) with about 95,988 citizens’ feedback. Total 96 ULBs are participating in this Swachh Survekshan from the State and so far, over 14 lakh people have registered their feedback on the progress made by their respective urban local bodies in the last one year. The Dehradun municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said that apart from several initiatives taken by the corporation this year to improve sanitation facilities, the participation of local residents is also commendable this year as their contribution would make a huge difference in placing the city among the 100 cleanest cities of the country. The officials also stated that no urban local body in Uttarakhand has received even half of the feedbacks received by MCD so far and since today is the last day for the citizen’s feedback, it is quite unlikely that any other urban local body (ULB) will touch this number in a day.

Meanwhile, the officials also expressed their apprehension stating that the ongoing construction works under Dehradun Smart City project can adversely affect the chances of Dehradun city to attain a better position in Swachh Survekshan 2021 despite performing better in cleanliness services than the last year.
