The management of Brooklyn school in Dehradun initially refused to issue a transfer certificate (TC) for Samad Ali, son of Nazma Khatoon, citing unpaid fees. After the matter reached the district magistrate Savin Bansal, the school issued the TC within two days and waived the outstanding fees, as per the officials. They informed that Khatoon had approached the DM on November 13, stating that her son, who completed class VIII and was enrolled in class IX at the school, could not continue due to the high fees. She added that she could not pay the fees from June to October because her husband is differently-abled and the family is facing financial difficulties. The school management had withheld the TC, affecting his son’s studies, as per the officials. They informed that the DM instructed the chief education officer to ensure the TC was issued within two days. Following this, the school waived the fees and issued the TC. The DM also issued instructions for schools to be compassionate towards disadvantaged students and their guardian’s issues and act accordingly.
