Doon police to use drones to manage traffic in the festive season

Dehradun city will be divided into seven zones, 11 sectors, and 34 sub-sectors for seven days from October 22 as part of the security arrangements to be made by the police during the festival season.

The police will also use drones to manage traffic issues across the city. The senior superintendent of police (SSP) Daleep Singh Kunwar said that the deputy superintendent of police, station house officers (SHOs), and in-charge of respective police stations will be in charge of the zones, sectors, and sub-sectors respectively.

Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will also be appointed in each zone to tackle any unavoidable situation during the festival season. The officials will also conduct regular checking of vehicles by installing barriers at several locations in urban locations. The officials for fire services will also be deployed in eight different locations to tackle any fire-related accidents. Besides this, the police have also made 30 additional parking spaces for people traveling on different routes to ensure smooth traffic during the festival season.

The police have also identified five bottleneck points which are Clock Tower to Bindal, Clock Tower to Darshanlal Chowk, Darshanlal Chowk to Tehsil Chowk, Tehsil Chowk to Prince Chowk, Prince Chowk to Saharanpur Chowk and Prince Chowk to Araghar Chowk. Barriers will be installed at nine points which are Raja Road, opposite Saharanpur Chowk, towards Kanwali area, near Tehsil Chowk, Buddha Chowk, Darshanlal Chowk, Clock Tower, Orient Chowk, and Survey Chowk.

The police have also formed five special units to tackle different issues of traffic which also include Drone and Crane units to check valid parking and tow the vehicle for invalid parking. Routes will be diverted as per the traffic pressure on roads.

There will be a completely zero zone for all types of vehicles at places like Paltan Bazaar, Dhamawala Bazaar, Machi Bazaar, and Peepalmandi in case of traffic and only pedestrians will be allowed to enter. The SSP has appealed to the locals to cooperate with the authorities to manage traffic during festival season and park vehicles at designated places to prevent their vehicles from getting towed away.
