With the recertification of ODF++ on Tuesday, Dehradun became the first city in Uttarakhand to achieve this status. On Tuesday, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) received the ODF++ recertification in the field survey of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).  The three status of ODF (Open Defecation Free), ODF + and ODF ++ under SBM-U is given to the cities on the basis of easy access to clean and functional public toilets for local residents besides being free from open defecation.

According to the Dehradun municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, this recertification has made the city eligible to get 500 marks in Swachh Survekshan 2021 and will considerably contribute to the city’s aim of achieving a rank among the top 100 cleanest cities in the country. “Our team has worked hard to improve sanitation facilities in Dehradun which helped us to maintain this status. We are optimistic that we would get a better ranking in Swachh Survekshan too,” asserted Pandey.
