DM orders MCD to prevent waterlogging in commercial establishments

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

In view of rise in number of dengue patients, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal directed the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) to issue clear guidelines to prevent waterlogging in commercial establishments. He also instructed the corporation to increase the number of larvicide tankers from five to 20.

The DM assured that sufficient budget will be provided to support the required resources. He also directed MCD to prepare and submit a comprehensive plan to the chief medical officer. This plan must include regular sanitation, prevention of water stagnation, chemical spraying using larvicide and fogging operations across all wards, he said.

He directed to take a strict action, including issuing challans, if mosquito larvae, waterlogging or unhygienic conditions are found during inspections. The DM instructed that the cleaning of all drains, including those along the Rispana and Bindal rivers, must be completed by May 15 with adequate manpower and machinery. Special attention should be given to dengue hotspot areas, where chemical spraying using larvicide tankers must be carried out to eliminate mosquito larvae at an early stage.

The officials informed him that the corporation has deployed 100 manual machines for fogging activities. Bansal also announced on Friday that Asha workers and facilitators in Municipal Corporation of Rishikesh (MCR) will receive Rs 1,500 during the dengue prevention period, similar to those under MCD. The district will also provide Rs 1,500 to all Ashas and Rs 1,555 to those with outstanding performance. Ashas will verify dengue volunteer work and conduct door-to-door surveys to eliminate stagnant water and larvae sources, Bansal added.
