District administration to distribute smart ration cards from December

The Dehradun district administration is planning to commence the distribution of the smart ration cards to all the eligible beneficiaries in the district from December. As informed by the Dehradun district supply officer (DSO), Jaswant Singh Kandari, the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had permitted the distribution of the smart ration cards from November 9 in the state. However, the work of printing the smart ration cards is still under process here, so the Dehradun district administration will start the distribution of the cards from the next month, said Kandari.

Meanwhile, several people have complained in the past that many stable earners in the district are in possession of those ration cards which are meant to provide subsidised monthly ration to low income families. The administration had asked such beneficiaries to surrender such ration cards a few months back so that the needy families can get ration at affordable prices. According to the officials, it is an offence for ineligible people to be in possession of ration cards meant for low income families, therefore all such ineligible beneficiaries should return such cards to the administration. Regarding the same, the DSO informed that till now, about 700 beneficiaries have submitted such ration cards to the district administration.
