In protest against disinvestment of the THDC India Limited (THDCIL), the Uttarakhand Congress organised a vehement protest at Bhagirathipuram, New Tehri on Monday. Large number of Congress party workers and leaders participated in the march which got converted into a public meeting at THDC headquarters located at Bhagirathipuram in Tehri. Addressing the meeting, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh said that the chief minister of Uttarakhand mutely surrendered before the union cabinet’s decision to sale 100 percent of government stake in the THDCIL. Launching a scathing attack on the Union and state governments he said that the Uttarakhand CM was showing indifference about the issue just two days before the decision of the union government which shows that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi didn’t take the Uttarakhand CM into confidence on such an important issue pertaining to the state. He added that if the CM was aware of the cabinet decision then it amounts to breach of trust with the people of the state. The PCC chief resolved that the Congress party would take the protest on the issue to destination. The leader of opposition in Uttarakhand assembly Indira Hridayesh said that apart from waging a war on the streets, the Congress party would raise the issue forcefully on the floor of assembly. The observer of All India Congress Committee (AICC), Anil Sharma said that the union government has put a brake on the economic progress of the country by taking decisions like demonetisation and GST. He said that the country is passing through a phase of recession and the Union government is on a selling spree of the Public Sector Undertakings (PSU). Congratulating the PCC president Pritam Singh and other Congress leaders for starting an agitation on the issue of Tehri dam, he said that the Congress party is poised to form government in Uttarakhand in the year 2022. The co- incharge of the state Congress, Rajesh Dharmani said that the much hyped double engine government has proved to a failure on every front and these governments have no right to continue on seat of power. The Vice President of state Congress party Surya Kant Dhasmana said that in the Trivendra Singh Rawat government which is about to complete almost three years in the office is the worst government the people of the state have seen. He said that the government has proved to be a failure on front is it on the education or health sector. Dhasmana said that the MP of Tehri should answer to the people of Tehri on the sale of the dam.
The Union Cabinet in one of its recent decisions had decided to transfer its stake in THDCIL to the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
