Doctors have detected a fracture in the left hand of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The CM had suffered a minor injury during a friendly cricket match on Tuesday. On Wednesday the CM got the injury examined at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital and his X- ray revealed a hairline fracture of the metacarpal bone of left hand.

On the advice of doctors, a plaster was cast on his left hand. When contacted, the senior orthopedic surgeon of the GDMC hospital Dr Chetan Giroti told The Pioneer that a temporary plaster has been cast on the hand of the CM and he would be re examined in three to four days.
Later talking to the media persons the CM said that the doctors have told him that the plaster would be removed after four weeks. He  added that the injury is minor and it would have no effect on his scheduled programmes and visits.

However the injury means that the CM Dhami who is leading the battle charge of the ruling BJP in the upcoming assembly elections would have to campaign for the party with a plastered hand. The election commission is expected to soon issue the notification of the elections in the state. All the major political parties in the state have already started their election campaign in Uttarakhand. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already held a rally in Parade Ground in Dehradun and is now scheduled to address a rally in Haldwani on December 30. After the successful rally of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the ruling BJP is under pressure to bring a bigger crowd to the rally of PM Modi in Haldwani. Since CM Dhami belongs to the Kumaon region of the state, the success of the rally in Haldwani would be linked to his prestige. Though the injury is minor, is on left hand and would not hinder the mobility of the Dhami it would definitely be niggling for the young CM to carry it through the tough trail of election campaign. Noted orthopedic surgeon Dr Y S Thapliyal told The Pioneer that though the fracture is hairline the CM would have to give some rest to his left hand for fast recovery.

It is pertinent to mention here that in the high voltage assembly elections held in West Bengal in March and April this year the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee had campaigned for her party in a wheelchair. Mamata injured her foot in Nandigram on March 10 and thereafter hit the campaign trail on a wheelchair and evoked sympathy of voters. In Uttarakhand too, former CM Harish Rawat had to wear a collar in his neck during the campaign of parliamentary elections in the year 2014.
