Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed the Transport department officials to begin implementation of the Prime Minister’s e-Bus Sewa Scheme at the earliest across Uttarakhand. He stated this during a review meeting of the department held here on Tuesday. He also instructed that the establishment of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in the State be completed in a time-bound manner.
Dhami directed to expedite the process of imposing green cess on vehicles entering from other States and to ensure timely completion of bus terminals currently under construction. He further directed officials to set up EV charging stations near bus stands, parking areas, government buildings, guest houses and petrol pumps to provide convenient access for vehicle users. He also directed to focus on the importance of increasing the revenue of the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC).
During the meeting, UTC managing director Reena Joshi informed that the e-Bus Sewa scheme will be initially launched in Dehradun and Haridwar under which 150 electric buses will be operated. The scheme aims to provide accessible and environmentally sustainable public transportation. It is also expected to generate around 750 new employment opportunities.
Joshi added that the State government is focused on promoting the use of EVs and reducing air pollution by prioritising the development of EV charging infrastructure. In the first phase of the initiative, 28 EV charging stations have already been set up at designated locations, she added.
