Dhami inaugurates State-level Khel Mahakumbh in Doon

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated State-level Khel Mahakumbh on Thursday at Maharana Pratap Sports College in Raipur, Dehradun. He also inaugurated the newly constructed shooting range built with a budget of Rs 31.18 crore in the Sports College campus for organising shooting sports in the 38th National Games scheduled to be organised in Uttarakhand in 2024. He announced in the event that the government will increase the amount given for food to the players participating in the games organised by the Sports and Youth Welfare Department from Rs 150 to Rs 225.

The department will reward the top three rank holders in the sports competitions organized at the Nyay Panchayat level with an amount of Rs 300, Rs 200 and Rs 150 respectively. Those who get the first, second and third position in the game at the block level would also receive Rs 500, Rs 400 and Rs 300 respectively which was earlier Rs 300, Rs 200 and Rs 150 respectively. The top three rank holders at the district-level games will be given Rs 800, Rs 600 and Rs 400 respectively, increasing the amount of Rs 100 to the cash reward. The cash reward for state-level games has also been increased to Rs 1,500, Rs 1,000 and Rs 700 respectively from Rs 1,000, Rs 600 and Rs 400 respectively. The CM said that the annual sports festival Khel Mahakumbh will provide an excellent platform for the young sportspersons of Uttarakhand to showcase their talent. The sports minister Rekha Arya also informed that Khel Mahakumbh started at the Panchayat level, Block level and district level and now it will conclude next month with the State-level competitions. A total of 3,73,128  students participated in Panchayat, Block and district-level competitions out of which, 8,000 participants have been selected to compete at the State level in a total of 14 games. She said that the department is also making arrangements for the 38th National Games scheduled to be held in the State in 2024.
