The newly elected Chairman of the Uttarakhand Waqf Board Shadab Shams has said that all the encroachments from the properties of the Waqf board in the State would be demolished soon. He said that a proposal to buy a bulldozer would be brought up in the first board meeting and the Waqf board with the help of the Police would start a drive to free its properties from encroachments. Talking to The Pioneer shortly after getting elected to the position of the Chairman of the Waqf board, Shans said that Uttarakhand Waqf board has properties of about Rs one lakh crore but about 50 percent of these properties are encroached upon.

“Now you will see Dhami Bulldozer operating in Uttarakhand on the illegally occupied properties of the Waqf board. We would not allow the rights of our children and poor Muslims to be grabbed by these encroachers,’’ he said.

Shams was elected unopposed on the position of chairman of the Uttarakhand Waqf board on Wednesday. After his election, the electoral officer and the Principal Secretary Minorities welfare department L Fennai made the announcement of his election and handed him the certificate.
