Devotees throng temples on first Monday of Shravan

Devotees flocked to temples in Dehradun to offer their prayers to Lord Shiva on the first Monday of the sacred month of Shravan, which began on July 11 and will end on August 9. This entire month is devoted to Lord Shiva, with followers particularly offering their prayers and offerings of Prasad and others. On this specific Monday, a significant number of devotees gathered, marking the first Monday of Shravan this year.

In addition to various temples throughout the city, the renowned Tapkeshwar Temple in Dehradun also saw many devotees coming to offer their prayers to Lord Shiva.

Temple priest Jagmohan Dimri informed that the arrival of devotees commenced from 4 Am on Monday and even stood in long lines to offer their prayers to Lord Shiva. They present their offerings in the form of milk, water, Bel Patra and other items to the Shivling. He also added that many devotees observe fasts every Monday throughout the month of Shravan.

Devotee Neelam Kumari said that she has fasted on the first Monday of the Shravan month to pray to Lord Shiva. In addition, she visited the nearby temples near her home to offer water, Bel Patra and others at the Shivling. She informed that during the month of Shravan, she recites the Shiv Chalisa daily and fasts every Monday.

Many other devotees have also been seen flocking to the temples in the city to offer their prayers to Lord Shiva here on Monday.

In addition to this, some street vendors have been observed selling Bel Patra and other pooja materials outside the city’s temples. One vendor, Raju, informed that the demand for Bel Patra and various pooja items rises during the month of Shravan. To accommodate this, he sets up a stall outside the temple each time, ensuring that all these items are readily available for devotees.
