PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Police have issued a detailed traffic plan for Dehradun to ensure smooth movement during the ensuing festive season. The plan includes route diversions, parking arrangements, no-entry zones and specific traffic duties for officials. As per the traffic plan, vehicles coming from different routes such as Sahastradhara, Rajpur Road, Raipur Road, Chakrata Road and Saharanpur Chowk have been assigned designated parking areas, including locations like MDDA Complex at Clock Tower, Rangers Ground near Buddha Chowk, Kabul House near Survey Chowk and the old bus stand near Drona Hotel. Two-wheelers heading to Paltan Bazaar can park at Gandhi Inter College or CNI School near the market.

To reduce congestion, loading vehicles are prohibited from entering Paltan Bazaar between 10 AM and 9 PM. Entry will be allowed only before 10 AM through Raja Road under a one-way system. Only traders with tokens will be allowed to bring their vehicles inside the market. In case of heavy traffic, specific routes will be diverted around Survey Chowk, Clock Tower and Dharampur to maintain smooth traffic flow. For Vikram and city buses, new drop and pick-up points have been set at Globe Chowk, Survey Chowk, Doon Chowk, MKP Chowk, Orient Chowk and Rangers Ground. Areas like Paltan Bazaar, Dhamawala and Peepal Mandi will remain zero zones for vehicles, allowing only pedestrians.

During the meeting chaired by ADG (Crime and Law and Order) V Murugesan, police officials reviewed the city’s festival traffic management plan. Station officers were instructed to remove roadside encroachments and ensure proper deployment of traffic and interceptor personnel after briefing. Duties have been assigned to inspectors, sub-inspectors and constables at high-traffic points. Besides this, 10 traffic cranes have been deployed to remove wrongly parked vehicles, while 29 Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system, 105 Red light Violation Detection (RLVD) and nine speed violation detection (SVD) cameras will monitor violations from the control room. Police have also set up mobile traffic teams and installed signage across key areas.

Residents have been advised to use public transport, avoid no-parking zones and keep shopping complex basement parking open. Private vehicle owners are urged to park only at designated sites to avoid inconvenience and a fine of Rs 1,200 for illegal parking. The public can also volunteer to assist traffic police by contacting the provided helpline numbers, as per the officials.
