The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal has suspended the license of Rajpur Road situated Cirqle Bar for 15 days after a fire broke out during a Juggling and Fire Show on Saturday. Though the fire was controlled in time that prevented a major accident, two staff members still got injured. Bansal said that the district administration took the matter seriously and ordered an inquiry under the supervision of the SDM Sadar.
During inspection late on Monday, the team found that the bar had violated licensing conditions and safety rules. The team observed that the ceiling was made of wood and branches, increasing the risk of a major blaze. The team noted that the bar staff, appointed mainly to serve alcohol, were performing unsafe acts involving fire for which they were not trained. Based on these findings, action was taken under sections 34(b) and (e) of the Excise Act, leading to the temporary suspension of the license, as per Bansal.
Earlier, after the video of the incident went viral on social media, Rajpur police imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the bar management. Police officials warned that any future performances involving fire or other dangerous acts without prior permission will invite strict action.
