The recently appointed senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Haridwar, Ajai Singh said that his priorities will be to control crime, ensure better traffic management, prevent inconvenience to pilgrims in the district and changing the duty hours of police personnel during fairs in Haridwar. Singh said this after being transferred recently from the post of Special Task Force SSP to handle charge of Haridwar district. In the past, Singh has also worked as the CO City and SP Rural in Haridwar. While Singh was transferred to the post of Haridwar SSP, Swapna Kishore Singh was also transferred from the post of STF ASP to the post of superintendent of police (Rural) in Haridwar.

Interacting with the media, the SSP said that due to the importance of Haridwar as a pilgrimage centre, a large number of people from far and wide travel to Haridwar. He said that at times pilgrims are also stopped at the borders in the name of checking and added that he will stop such unnecessary checking which creates inconvenience to pilgrims. He stressed that checking will be undertaken when needed. Singh further said that efforts will also be made to make the police personnel work for eight hours instead of 12 hours during the religious fairs and events which frequently take place in Haridwar.

Meanwhile, the SP (Rural) said that his focus will be on increasing police patrolling in the rural areas. He stressed that all complaints made by the citizens will be taken up seriously. It is pertinent to mention here that on the directions of the SSP, barriers were removed from the district borders on Sunday.
