Covid 2nd wave surge retains its fatal sting in Uttarakhand

67 deaths, 5058 new cases reported on Monday

The second wave of the pandemic is continuing to take its toll in the lives of people of Uttarakhand as 67 deaths and 5058 new cases of the disease were reported by the state health department on Monday. The state now has 156859 (cumulative) cases of the disease while the death toll has risen to 2213 in the state. The authorities also discharged 1601 patients from different hospitals following their recovery on Monday. A total of 112265 patients have so far recovered from the disease in the state.   The recent surge in the number of new cases coupled with the less number of recoveries as compared to new cases the recovery percentage has taken a plunge. The recovery percentage is now 71.51 and the sample positivity rate is 4.31 percent in the state. In what can be termed as a good effort, the state health department tested more than 64000 samples of the suspected patients of Covid-19 on Monday which is the highest single day number of tests so far in the state. A total of 33059 samples were collected on Monday while 23754 samples are yet to be tested in different laboratories of the state.

In Sushila Tiwari government hospital Haldwani 12 deaths from Covid-19 were reported on Monday. Here 48 patients have died in the last three days. In Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital Dehradun death of 10 patients was reported. Similarly HNB base hospital Srinagar reported death of nine patients while seven patients died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh. Six patients succumbed to the disease at the Military Hospital (MH) Dehradun, four from Baba Barfani hospital Haridwar, three each from Mahant Indiresh and Swami Bhoomanand hospital, two each from ONGC, Kailash and Max hospital Dehradun and one each from Arogyadham hospital Dehradun, Arihant Dehradun and Metro hospital Haridwar on Monday.

The provisional state capital of Dehradun and Haridwar districts continue to be the worst hit from the pandemic.  On Monday a record 2034 new patients were reported from Dehradun while 1002 patients surfaced in Haridwar. Nainital district reported 767, Pauri reported 323, Udham Singh Nagar 283, Almora 135, Chamoli 97, Pithoragarh 88, Tehri 87, Rudraprayag 64, Uttarkashi 45 and Bageshwar 29 new patients of Covid-19 on Monday.

 The state now has 39031 active patients of the disease. Dehradun continues to be at the top of the table of active cases of the disease with 13385 patients, Haridwar has 10888, Nainital 4628,  Udham Singh Nagar 2578, Pauri 2035, Tehri 1234, Champawat 1027,  Almora 727, Chamoli 565, Uttarkashi 584, Rudraprayag 530, Pithoragarh 447 and Bageshwar 312 active cases of the disease.

The administration has set up 163 containment zones in different parts of the state in an attempt to prevent the infection from spreading.

In the ongoing vaccination drive the state health department vaccinated 42614 people in different parts of the state on Monday. In the state 351914 people have been fully vaccinated so far as they have received both the first and second dose of the vaccine while 1557598 beneficiaries have been partially vaccinated. The Chief Operations Officer (COO) of state Covid-19 control room, Dr Abhishek Tripathi said that 662 vaccine sessions were organised in different parts of the state on Monday.
