Heavy downpours since late Tuesday night left several parts of Dehradun ‘Smart City’ waterlogged on Wednesday. Several main routes like Clock Tower, Subhash Road, Araghar, ISBT, Majra, Miyanwala, Race Course and Dharampur areas among others witnessed severe waterlogging where traffic movement also remained affected, especially in the areas with under construction works.

Several vehicles were stuck in overflowing roads while many were reported to be wading on waterlogged roads in areas like Rispana and Miyanwala. Due to the sudden increase in the water level of the Rispana River and Bindal River by evening, water entered many houses as well. Two people also got trapped in the Song River near the Chidderwala area in the evening and were rescued by the State Disaster Rescue Force (SDRF).

The Dehradun district magistrate and chief executive officer of Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL) Sonika also inspected several areas of the city amid the rain and expressed her dismay towards the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) and Public Works Department (PWD) about the severe waterlogging across the city.

She inspected road stretches of Rispana to Banjarawala, Kargi Chowk, Jogiwala, Chhe Number Puliya, Sahastradhara Crossing, Survey Chowk, Parade Ground, Rajpur Road, Prince Chowk and Haridwar Road. She also expressed her disappointment over the pending constructions and directed the agencies concerned to complete them soon. She also directed the officials concerned to remain on duty in their respective areas during rain too to provide necessary assistance if required.
