In view of the rise in the water level of the rivers due to heavy rains, Dehradun district magistrate Sonika has issued an order to shift people living near the river to safer places. The DM on Tuesday conducted field inspections of various waterlogged areas of the city including ISBT, Chandrabani and Shimla bypass amid the heavy rainfall. She also interacted with locals of affected places. The officials from various departments also accompanied the DM during the inspection. She directed the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) and the irrigation department to clean drains regularly to minimise the risk of waterlogging. She also directed the irrigation department and sub divisional magistrates to monitor the rise in the water level of rivers and shift the people living nearby to safer places.    Due to severe waterlogging in Bhudpur Nayagaon of the Shimla bypass area, the administration shifted three families to safer places. The police also started making public announcements in areas in the evening where the population resides near rivers. As per the DM’s order, the SDMs also inspected the residential areas near the rivers. Besides this, the Chakrata SDM also shifted four families of the Naraya village of Chakrata to a nearby Veterinary Hospital and Panchayat Ghar in view of heavy rainfall on Tuesday night that can potentially trigger a landslide in the area. Besides this, a person in the Kalsi area was also shifted as the officials said that debris might fall on his house due to heavy rains at night. Respective SDMs are making arrangements to shift people to safe locations during emergencies, as per the officials.
