Over 1,700 test positive in Kumbh Mela area in five days
Confirming the fears of the experts that the mega religious congregation of Kumbh in Haridwar would accelerate the pace of contagion of Covid-19, the authorities on Thursday confirmed that 1,700 people were tested positive for the disease from April 10 to 14 in the Mela area.
The Kumbh Mela which is considered as the biggest religious congregation in the world officially started on April 1.
The medical workers conducted 2,36,751 tests during the five-day period ( April 10 to 14) in the Mela area. Out of these, 1701 samples came out positive for Covid-19.
It is learnt that in the Kumbh area a number of the Sadhus belonging to different Akhadas and sects have been reported positive for the disease.
The death of Mahamandaleshwar Kapil Dev Dass Naga belonging to the Akhil Bharatiya Nirvani Akhada due to Covid-19 has come as a shock among the members of the Akhada. The ascetic belonging to Chitrakoot in Madhya Pradesh was in Haridwar to attend the Kumbh. The ascetic was admitted in a private hospital in Dehradun after he was found positive for Covid-19 in Haridwar on April 12.
Meanwhile the condition of the President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad (ABAP), Narendra Giri admitted in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh is improving. He was admitted in hospital April 12 after testing positive for Covid-19.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of AIIMS Rishikesh Harish Thapliyal said that the condition of Swami Narendra Giri is improving and he is on room air and he doesn’t have a fever now.
