Councillor indulges in celebratory firing at own marriage

Despite the strictness of the police in Haridwar, some people are not desisting from displaying weapons in public and on social media.  In the latest incident, a nominated councillor indulged in celebratory firing from his licensed rifle during his own marriage.  Jwalapur police have registered a case against the BJP councillor after the video of the firing went viral on social media. The rifle and license have been seized by the police.

According to the police, the nominated councillor Haroon Khan, son of BJP leader Babar Khan, who is close to Haridwar MLA and former cabinet minister Madan Kaushik, was married two days ago. A day before the wedding, Haroon fired several rounds in the air from a licensed rifle at his residential premises during the function.  The video of the incident went viral on social media on Monday.

Jwalapur police station inspector RK Saklani informed that a case has been registered against the accused Haroon Khan under relevant sections.  The rifle and license have also been confiscated while the cancellation report has been sent to the district magistrate.
