Construction of blood bank at District Hospital gets delayed

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The construction of the blood bank at Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital is being delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. It was initially expected to be completed by the beginning of January. Notably, following an order from the district magistrate, the hospital administration had submitted a proposal for the blood bank to the State administration, which was subsequently approved. With this approval in place, construction of the blood bank had begun. Currently, the work is ongoing though it has delayed. Earlier, it was thought that the construction company would hand over the completed building to the hospital administration in the first week of January. With things incomplete, the timeline was extended. However, even in the first week of February, it is uncertain when   the construction company will transfer the blood bank to the hospital administration.

Providing an update on the current status of the blood bank’s construction, the principal medical superintendent at the hospital Dr Manu Jain stated that it is 95 per cent complete. “Initially, the construction agency was expected to hand over the facility to the hospital administration in the first week of January. However, the tender for completing the construction work was earlier fixed to the end of February,” he said.

Asked about the reasons for the delay, he said that the delays were due to unavoidable factors, including labour-related issues. “We are actively monitoring the construction progress to ensure it is completed within the timeframe specified in the tender. We hope it will be handed over to us this month itself.  Meanwhile, the hospital administration has asked the director general of Health for a budget to acquire the essential equipment for the facility. Once the equipment is purchased, the licensing process for the blood bank will begin,” Jain added.
