Consistent efforts needed for environmental conservation- CM

Tree plantation campaign will be continued for a month to mark Harela in the State. Along with this, consistent efforts are needed for environmental conservation. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said this while participating in a tree plantation event organised by the Forest department on the occasion of Harela on Saturday.

Stressing on the need for environmental conservation, Dhami said that work will be done to revive and preserve water sources and mountain streams in each district. Harela is being celebrated this year on the theme of revival and protection of rivers. Stating that it is vital to have balance between development and the environment, he said that environmental conservation is a collective responsibility to ensure that the future generations have a clean environment.

Dhami said that Uttarakhand is not only a centre of religion, spiritualism and culture but also known for its rich biodiversity where tourists are attracted by the natural beauty. Stating that the responsibility of Uttarakhand is more when it comes to environmental conservation, the chief minister said that all will have to move forward with a sense of dedication for conserving the environment.

Speaking on the occasion, the State’s Forest minister Subodh Uniyal said that tree plantation and environmental conservation provides clean air, pure water and other benefits from nature. He exhorted all to play their part as aware citizens and secure the future by laying special focus on conservation of the environment. He said that every person is responsible for protecting trees and ensuring cleanliness of the environment. He appealed to the youth to participate enthusiastically in tree plantation and cleanliness drives. The minister further informed that 15 lakh trees will be planted across the State to mark Harela and that 50 per cent of these will be fruit trees. Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’, Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’, principal chief conservator of forests Vinod Kumar Singhal, principal secretary RK Sudhanshu, Garhwal commissioner Sushil Kumar and others were also present on the occasion.
