‘Congress- Mukt Bharat concept a product of vicious mind’: PCC chief
Comparing the slogan of ‘Congress– Mukt Bharat’ as coined by Bharatiya Janata Party with the German dictator Hitler’s call to eliminate Jews, the state Congress president Pritam Singh called upon those working for Congress or loyal to the party ideology to stand up against such a sectarian, vicious mindset. He said this while addressing a programme organized to celebrate 134th foundation day of the Congress at the state party office on Friday.
Singh said that the Indian National Congress is the oldest democratic party of the world. “It has played a stellar role in the freedom struggle of the country,” he said. Terming December 28, 1885 as a day which is firmly embedded in the collective psyche of the people of the India, he said that the day inspires all those associated with the Congress. While paying glowing tribute to those who founded the Congress like A O Hume, Anne Besant, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Gopal Krishna Gokhale and Madhav Govind Ranade, he said that the Congress continued with its legacy of sacrifices. “Many of its leaders have sacrificed for protecting the unity and sovereignty of the country,” he said. Singh added that Sonia Gandhi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi have been working hard to take the policies of the grand old party forward presently.
The co-in-charge of the party in Uttarakhand Rajesh Dharmani said that the galaxy of the Congress leaders over the past 134 years have deeply impacted the psyche of the Indians. In her address, the Leader of Opposition (LoP), Indira Hridayesh said that the Congress is peerless because apart from uniting the people, it had begot India as a modern nation in the world. She remembered the momentous role played by the former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and also the role played by Rajiv Gandhi in taking the nation forward on path of development. Former PCC president Kishore Upadhyaya said the Congress has passed through trials and tribulations in course of its existence and it has never ceased to be. “It is inclined to come out of the tunnel of decline with a renewed force with the people clinging to it with love and trust,” he said.
